I sold some stuff on ebay. I packed carefully and shipped with insurance. Buyer claims part of it came broken. Should I reimburse for the whole thing, partially reimburse for items broken, or am I not responsible? Buyer quickly filed claim on paypal saying items not as described before I got a chance to resolve this. Should I wait for paypal resolution?

i would take care of it before your ebay rating can go down, reimburse the buyer for the one particular broken item and explain it wasnt your fault, but your sorry.. its the best thing to do.

Ask them to provide you with a photo of the damage, so you can claim on the insurance, when i did this, all of a sudden they decided there wasn't a problem. If they are claiming for item not as described, but telling you it is broken, there is already doubt isn't there?? They don't come across very honest

Paypal will probably rule against you. I believe the mail may compensate you if you file a claim with them, but it depends on the value of the item and the type of postage you paid for. They may write to the buyer requesting confirmation of the damage. I would offer a full refund and offer to pay return postage costs and then at least the buyer will not profit from it if they are lying about the damage.

Have the buyer send it back for starters see if it is really broken. Then don't make the mistake of selling to that buyer again. I always gave the buyer the option of buying insurance on the package and stated if they did not purchase the shipping insurance it was not my problem. I would let pay pal resolve it now that they jumped the gun like that.

its sometimes best to refund money - minus - the shipping and handling. Thats to avoid having a bad rating on line. That could make you or break you. If its broken tell him to mail it back to you and then when recieved mail back refund.

If you have insurance or even just proof of posting, you as the one who used the post office, can file a claim through them for what the item is worth. You do not get the postage back. The buyer can not make this cliam. The best way to proceed is to refund the broken goods minus the postage, and claim through the post office.

If you shipped them with insurance...and the buyer paid for the insurance or you did......depending on which one of you bought the insurance....would be the one to file a claim on the broken items......there is a whole lot of difference between items arriving broken and items not as described......you will get your chance to explain......if you are worried about the bad feedback etc etc....just reimburse the buyer for all but shipping.....
